SafariRanger

A pixel-art safari adventure in the browser — photograph the wildlife, map the reserve, climb the leaderboard.

our role: Concept, design and build

safariranger.com
SafariRanger running live in the browser
SafariRanger — live today

the situation

Games are the hardest kind of web build to make feel good: everything is timing, feedback and atmosphere, and none of it is forgiving. It also had to run in a browser tab, on a phone, with no download.

the thinking

Start with the feel of one interaction and expand outwards. Get movement, reward and pace right, then build the campaign, the vehicles and the rankings around it.

what we built

  • 01Game concept, rules and mechanics
  • 02A campaign of levels with species to photograph, vehicles to unlock and hidden workshops to find
  • 03Browser game engine work and performance tuning for desktop and mobile
  • 04Accounts, saved progress and a live leaderboard across reserves
  • 05Pixel art direction, interface and audio-visual feedback

inside the build

Real screens, captured live. Every page is built to load fast, read clearly and work the same on a phone as it does on a desktop.
